We are very excited that the PDR 2012 World Championships will take place at Moraine State Park (Lake Arthur) in Pennsylvania, August 2-5, 2012.  This should be a wonderful event, since it is located at an excellent sailing venue with an active community of puddle duckers and other sailors.

Participants of all ages and experience levels are welcome.  Last year, we had sailors 7 to 70-some years of age participating in our duck races.  There will be plenty of fun for even the non-sailors in the family, as the champs combine with the annual Regatta at Lake Arthur -- a festival that includes other water activities, games, hot-air balloons, fireworks, etc.   This should also provide a great opportunity to showcase puddle ducking to the wider community and build interest, as the regatta typically draws 65,000 visitors.

Organizers won the bid to host the championships after hosting two successful PDR events in Pennsylvania last season at which 12 and 16 PDRs hit the water to participate in races and games.  Over the last 18 months, volunteers have organized “duck hatches” to build 16 boats. as a way to build the duck fleet and to introduce new sailors to the fun and art of sail.
